Bea Armstrong is the marketing and communications director for the Deschutes River Conservancy (DRC). She has over 15 years of non-profit experience in marketing, communications, strategic program development and management, event coordination and fundraising. A native of South Carolina, Bea moved to the west in 1990 after graduating from Randolph-Macon Woman's College in Lynchburg, Virginia with a BA in Art History. She moved to Central Oregon in 2001 from Portland and lives in Bend with her husband and son.
*Georell Bracelin (yes, like Superman's dad!), account manager at The Shop helps clients solve the mystery behind successful marketing, advertising and public relations. A consultant who works with small and large businesses, Georell has long-term, broad-based experience in the business, from over 20 years with advertising agencies as a copywriter, publicist and account supervisor to working as VP of Marketing for a large snowboard company. Georell is the mom of two active boys, a 5th grade home room mom, and loves to read and drink wine with her book club.
*Lynnette Braillard, marketing director for the Bend Visitor and Convention Bureau. In addition to her full-time day job, Lynnette owns her own marketing company, Lu Solutions. Lynnette received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Washington of Seattle. Growing up in southern California and being a self-pronounced beach-girl made it tough to trade in her flip flops for Uggs and waves for mountains when she decided to make the move to Bend in 2001. Her passions include her husband, Jay, along with their shared love for adventure. In fact, a typical vacation planned for these two include a Great White shark cage diving expedition at Guadalupe Island off the coast of Mexico in 2009.
Jennifer Collins, account supervisor, tbd advertising , has spent time in agencies large and small along the West Coast and in Chicago. She has worked in account management, planning, research and strategy and new business, as well as consulting for design firms. Jen has been with tbd since December, 2007 and is very excited to make Bend her new home with her partner and son. She graduated with a B.A. in theatre and was part of the ensemble at the Synergy Theatre Company in Chicago prior to making her career in advertising.
Cam Davis, chief copywriter and owner of WordPlay, an Economics graduate from UCLA, turned his attention to advertising and found his first copywriting gig in his hometown of San Diego in 1983. Five years and two agencies later, he was the top writer for the #1 agency in town – then known as Phillips-Ramsey. But in 1991, he gave it all up to live and work in the advertising "hotbed" of Bend, Oregon. In 2002, Cam won the AdFed’s Tom Hacker Memorial Award for dedicated service to the local advertising community and began a successful transition into the freelance world. When not writing pithy ad copy, you’re likely to find Cam exploring Cascade trails on foot, bike, skis or snowshoes; and trying to teach his two daughters what little he knows about soccer. Cam was an AdFed board member from 2002-2005, serving as programs chair.
*Wendy Epner, sales and marketing, Smart Solutions. Wendy works with clients on a daily basis to help them understand the delicate balance between search engine optimization, branded design and content management online. Special talents include being an interpreter of web and search language into common terms for prospective business clients. Wendy has been involved in the design and advertising community in Bend for the last seven years with the last three years on the board for Central Oregon AdFed. With her free time, outside of the screen of a computer, she’s an active biker, skier and hiker with her soon-to-be husband and two yellow labs.
*Aaron L. Fry, graphic designer, bend or fry. Graphic design is what he does. Fry is a translator of ideas, a distiller of meaning. For the last seven years he’s been involved with AdFed in different ways. You may be surprised to know that he didn't own a personal computer until 2007. Yeah, he bought a Mac. No surprise there.
*Mike Glover– re-Envisioner, CBO, CSO, DOM, the marketing department. His goal for marketing clients is to develop successfully integrated "360 degree" marketing, from the 35,000 foot strategic view right down to the branding roadmap of "Put your money here, but not here". Mike has been called a brilliant strategic marketer as well as a big goof – you decide. Mike has worked in the tourism and hospitality industry, and as a brand, e-marketing and online marketing strategy consultant. He has a killer music collection.
Chris Hale, business sales consultant, Wells Fargo Merchant Payment Solutions, has a long career in media advertising sales and management. Chris has a strong background in club and district management and knows how to bring out the best in your members and volunteers. He’s held just about every officer position for District XI. Chris can be found on area links playing golf when not at work. His daughter graduates from high school this June.
Jo Ann Hand, co-owner and managing director, Pinnace Media, Inc, moved to Bend in 2005 when she joined forces with her husband, Matt. Jo administers the operations, financials and sales of this booming video production company. Prior to moving to Bend, Jo was the administrator of a broadcast dealer in Portland for five years. As a member of AdFed for the past two years, Jo has supported the organization through the production of AdBites and Drake Awards. In her spare time, (what spare time?) she enjoys the Bend lifestyle by hanging out in coffee shops and hiking Pilot Butte.
*ShanRae Hawkins, account supervisor for DVA Advertising & PR, has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Idaho and nearly a decade of marketing experience. Most recently in the tourism industry, ShanRae has served on state tourism committees. She is the proud mom of a new baby boy and enjoys hiking with him and her husband. ShanRae grew up on a ranch and is a cowgirl at heart.
Randy Johnson, photographer, 501Drive, LLC. Randy Johnson's first career was photography. He’s had varying professions throughout the years including returning to complete his college degree in marketing, but getting sidetracked and receiving his Masters degree in organizational psychology. He then accepted a position with The Weather Channel as an internal consultant, facilitating the planning necessary to prevent the cannibalization of the core brand by the emerging website. He spent the next several years consulting major corporations in performance management, project management, and strategic planning.
Randy has served on a variety of boards of directors consistently for the past 25 years. He joined his wife Pamela in her marketing communications business, 501 Drive LLC, and returned to his first career and love – photography.
Rob Johnson, Senior art director, DVA Advertising & PR Rob has more than 15 years of award-winning advertising and design experience. After completing the nationally-renowned advertising program at the University of Texas in Austin as well as two years of design at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Rob has made a successful career at several Texas agencies. Now he’s happy to call Central Oregon home. His experience ranges from high tech to packaged goods and includes print, point-of-purchase, broadcast, collateral, corporate identity, Web site development, interactive and non-traditional.
Rob and his wife, Valerie, have their hands full with their 4-year-old son, Wyatt and 2-year-old daughter Ginger, but given time to himself you can find him either behind a camera, on a bike or attached to his Xbox 360 like a surgery patient to a morphine drip.
Kristin Luck, president, Decipher, Inc. diverse background includes a strong technical knowledge of online research systems and new product development, combined with traditional research experience. Kristin was one of the pioneers of the multi-media online research business nine years ago to assist in the development of proprietary capabilities for testing full screen video and other multi-media materials securely online. Along with establishing operational infrastructures firmly rooted in traditional market research methodologies, she has helped blaze a new paradigm for online research tools and data reporting. Kristin has more than 12 years of management experience in both domestic and international custom market and social science research. She moved to Bend from SoCal just in time to attend the Drake awards in March.
Janel Smith-Marchi, senior account manager, KTVZ-NBC, KFXO-Fox, NTVZ-CW, KQRE-Telemundo worked as an account executive and creative director in her own Sacramento, California advertising agency before selling it. Marchi then worked as marketing director and VP marketing for regional and national companies based in California. She is the past president for the Sacramento Ad Club. Janel and her husband, David, moved to Bend in 2004. They enjoy hiking, biking, skiing, and Bend’s many arts opportunities – from the symphony and performing art theaters to popular music and local arts festivals. Janel is a collector of antique buttons and is active in the regional and national hobby organizations.
*Ron Paradis, director of college relations, Central Oregon Community College, is an Oregon native and U of O Journalism School graduate. Ron worked for the UO in Sports Information, at Creighton University and Keene State College in New Hampshire before coming to COCC 17 years ago. Ron has been involved with AdFed for more than eight years. His claim to fame is his ability to say all the presidents in order in less than 10 seconds. He and his wife, Judy, have three teenagers—a task to raise them all.
*Molly Renner, Business Services Marketing Manager, BendBroadband, a 52 year-old local cable and telecommunications company. After growing up in Portland, she attended the University of Puget Sound and graduated with a business and marketing degree. She started her 19 year career at AT&T Wireless in sales, marketing and product development as corporate account executive, director of sales, director of national marketing and product development. She then became director of sales and marketing at a streaming media company in Seattle. Previous to BendBroadband, she was the director of marketing at a local telecommunications company in Bend.
She moved to Bend in 2000 after finding her now husband, Ken, a Bend native, and Oregon Duck. They have a 4-year-old son named Sam.
Julianne Repman, Bend-La Pine Schools Communication Director, loves to tell a great story, so it’s no wonder that she looks forward to sharing the bountiful successes of the district's 16,000 students and more than 1,600 staff every day. A trained television reporter turned public information officer, Julianne has a diverse communications background and keen understanding of the ‘media machine’. She has more than 15 years of experience in media and communications, including more than nine years in Central Oregon. During her off time, you can find Julianne on a sailboat in the South Pacific, exploring Yosemite or on the trails of Central Oregon.
Steve Ries, Combined Communications brings 25+ years of marketing, communications and management experience with an emphasis on helping others achieve better goals in a diversely shifting market. A native Oregonian, Steve has served on several boards and councils also donating spare time to charitable organizations. Steve his wife, three daughters and new granddaughter live, love and play in the greatest state - Oregon!
Cassondra Schindler, account executive, tbd advertising is a relative newcomer to the advertising community after a first career as a public servant. In her role as a Social Service Specialist, she worked to find permanent legal resolutions for children who are victims of abuse and neglect. Today she is delighted to continue specializing in the business of relationships by helping clients develop meaningful, long-lasting relationships with their customers through the art of communication. Her interest in working on the AdFed board is spurred by a belief in the importance of contribution. She also believes in the therapeutic power of bicycling, being a star detective and commute options advocate
Michelle Sobala, Owner, Organic Webs are interactive experiences that captivate viewers. Sobala’s approach saves clients time by putting the web to work for them. Organic Webs are convenient for clients to manage, with their content management tool that has evolved to become a versatile environment that empowers clients to truly take ownership of their web site.
Her ultimate creation to-date is her one-year-old daughter Jasmine. And she’s still somehow managing to learn how to paint, and play golf with her partner, Jeremy.
*Aileen Walker principle/creative director for Sublime Design Group has been a designer since 1985 (23 years), most recently working with Sublime Design Group (the agency with the lime cars )she and her husband, Kelly, formed in 2002. She is currently training for a 1/4 marathon, hiking various beautiful places and spending quality time with her husband and two boys.
*Valerie Yost, is the marketing manager for Brooks Resources, Central Oregon's oldest and most respected real estate development companies. She manages the advertising, marketing, events, public relations and communications for the company’s many projects Valerie has served on the AdFed Board for nearly eight years and in that time has served as a co-chair for the Public Service committee, co-chair for the Drakes committee, Club Achievement chair, Cultural Diversity chair and 1st Vice President. When she’s not busy at work or slaving away for AdFed, Valerie enjoys designing jewelry and spending time with her young daughter and husband.
Amanda Patterson, senior account executive, Citrus, has eight years of marketing and advertising experience. She graduated with an English Literature degree from Vanguard University in Costa Mesa, California. Her marketing career began while still a student. At 23, she was promoted to manager of marketing communications and oversaw the marketing and advertising strategies for 25 branch offices in California. After two years, she decided to try out the agency side with another company, where she oversaw marketing, advertising and PR for some of the agency’s largest accounts. Amanda plays guitar, sings and write songs. She enjoys concerts, reading, exercising, hiking, floating, mountain biking, hanging out at the lake with her husband and dog. She volunteers once a month at the Shepherd’s House. She and her husband moved to Bend two years ago.
